Mother’s Day arrives a week today - Sunday, May 11th — amidst spring-sweet air and all-day sunshine that requires a good pair of sunglasses and SPF (here is the only formula I’m wearing). Like clockwork, I usually hear from a handful of Mum friends who are terribly disappointed with how their Mother’s Day turned out. It never fails! But it’s 2025 and we can do better. If you’re a Mum, forward this along to your other half; I’ll be addressing your paramour directly.
Here’s how to make sure her day is great (and not f*ck it up again).
Anticipate & Intercept
Did her eyes dart toward the laundry basket? Nope, because you’ll have the laundry done and house spotless. Intercept any default chores she’ll turn to and do them yourself. Do the week ahead shopping and make the kids’ lunch for Monday too; us Mums hate doing that.
Cancel the Brunch
If it involves having to spend any time with other humans, do yourself a biggie and cancel that reso stat. She doesn’t want to get dressed up and deal with kids in public. She just wants to be.
Make Yourself Scarce
Take the kids out for a minimum of five hours. Feed them, keep them hydrated, wear them out a little, bring them back fed. Don’t ask her to pack or prep a thing. When you do exit, the house should be clean. See #1 to verify that you did this correctly and make sure all her fave eats are on hand.
It’s not about hitting all the marks - it’s about showing her how much you appreciate her every day, and making this one day extra sweet.
Keep Her Well-Fed
Her fave breakfast, pastries, coffee, sour candy, etc. etc., will be purchased in advance, and ready for the plucking, so she can get into her cozies and watch her fave show or do whatever she wishes. On this blessed day, do not leave to go grab anything.
Get the Jewelry.
The truth us, all moms want something from JENNY BIRD. Grab her a super comfortable and cool Gia Bangle that she can wear all the time (even in the shower) or the sculptural Celeste Bracelet that will perk up all her fits. Have you messed up in the past? I would add the Sofia Bracelet to the list, and create the stack I have in the photo above. Order today and you’ll have it in time for Mother’s Day, too. Other sweet idea is spelling out your kids’ initials on a chain - there’s a promotion ending today that’ll net you a free letter pendant if you buy the letter necklace.
It’s not really about hitting all the marks above - it’s about showing her how much you appreciate her every day, and making Mother’s Day extra sweet.
Love all this 🥰
